3 cool things to check out at the Calgary Home + Design Show
The air is getting crisp and the leaves are falling to the ground which makes it a great time to stay close to home and find new ways to spruce up the homestead. The Calgary Home + Design Show is back September 22 -25 with tons of ideas to inspire your beloved interior spaces. As a new homeowner, I’m pretty stoked to visit this month’s show to find new goodies for my place (faucets and bathtubs, here I come!) There are also tons of cool local features that will be featured throughout the entire weekend that can be easy to miss when wandering through the BMO Centre. Here are 3 cool events you definitely will want to check out at the Calgary Home + Design Show.
DIY Workshop Series with Lacey Haskell
Local curator Lacey Haskell of Feathering My Nest does beautiful lifestyle and home décor work and will be sharing her tricks in a series of do-it-yourself topics from Succulent Kokedama building to FAT painting. If you aren’t able to sign up for a session, be sure to get the insider tips from Lacey at “A Home of Your Own: Personalizing Your Space presented by Urban Barn.” The presentations will run at 6:00pm on Friday, September 23 and 1:00PM Saturday, September 24. Lacey will show you how to take your home from drab to fab with cozy customized accents by combining items you already own with on-trend pieces from Urban Barn’s new fall collection.
Ultimate Upcycle Challenge: DIY Runway
The upcycle challenge is one of my favourite things to check out each year. Local designers, artists, and media are invited to take part in an upcycle challenge to create something new out of something old. This year’s challenge had the local influencers take a favourite item from their own closet to repurpose as well as upcycle a pre-loved item from ReStore Calgary. With only a $50 design budget, they need to turn their finds into a one-of-a-kind, trendy home decor item. It takes a lot of creative savvy to pull this off and the results are always fun to see! The best part is that all the items are auctioned off with proceeds going to Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta. Win-win all around.
Get cooking with Calgary’s Top Chefs
The Trail Appliances Cooking Stage is going to be hopping with cooking demos from some of Calgary’s best chefs around the city. You may event get to sample their eats too! What’s a home without some great cooking? These chefs will be sharing their advice for local ingredients and more to wow your friends and family.
